What Is Redcoats.io?
Redcoats.io is a free browser-based 3D multiplayer FPS developed by Yp3d, set in the age of musket and sail — the 17th to 19th century era of European line infantry, naval warfare, and the American Revolutionary period. Its defining claim is straightforward: up to 1,000 players on a single battlefield at the same time, making it the largest 3D web multiplayer FPS ever built.
You pick a class — musketeer, cavalryman, cannoneer, or sailor — and join a regiment in real-time combat. The game runs on WebGL2 and plays best on Chrome, Edge, or Brave. No download, no account required.

The Four Classes
Every battle starts with a class selection. Each one has a distinct role, movement style, and combat strength. Playing a class correctly requires understanding what it is built for — not just how it shoots.
Controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| W A S D | Move |
| Mouse | Aim |
| Left Click | Shoot / Melee attack |
| Shift or Right Click | Zoom aim |
| Space | Jump |
| C | Crouch |
| 1 – 5 | Switch weapon |
| F | Interact — mount horse, operate cannon, steer ship |
| M | Open tactical map |
The M key tactical map is more useful than most new players realize. In a battle with hundreds of players, it shows you where your team is concentrated, where forts are being contested, and where the enemy is pushing. Checking it regularly — not just when things are going wrong — is a habit that meaningfully improves your positioning decisions.
Why Reloading Changes Everything
Most FPS games let you fire as fast as you can click. Redcoats.io does not. Flintlock muskets take a long time to reload, which is historically accurate and mechanically central to how the game works.
A player mid-reload is completely exposed. The bayonet exists as a melee fallback for exactly this moment — if an enemy reaches you while your musket is empty, you switch to the blade. This reload vulnerability is why firing lines work: when one soldier reloads, the next fires. Solo players reloading alone in the open are among the easiest targets on the map.
Find cover before you reload. A doorway, a wall, a tree — anything between you and the enemy. Experienced players target isolated musketeers who just fired, specifically because they know the reload window is coming. If you are caught in the open mid-reload, switch to bayonet immediately rather than waiting for the musket to be ready.
Why 1,000 Players Works — and Why Teamwork Is Mandatory
At 1,000 players, Redcoats.io is visually chaotic. The players who do well are the ones who ignore that chaos and focus on their regiment’s immediate objectives.
Lone-wolf tactics fail consistently in this game. A single musketeer charging an enemy position gets overwhelmed by numbers in seconds. A disciplined firing line — three or four musketeers advancing together, staggering their shots — can hold a position against far more enemies. The regiment structure is the game asking you to actually play like a soldier, not a hero.
Tips for Each Class
- Musketeer: Never advance faster than the players beside you. A musketeer who outpaces their line is exposed from the sides and immediately targeted. Stay level with your regiment and fire together.
- Cavalryman: Attack from angles the enemy is not covering. A cavalry charge into the front of a firing line is a poor trade. The same charge coming from behind while they are engaged forward can eliminate several players before they can respond.
- Cannoneer: Start with cannonballs to target forts and fortified positions from distance. Switch to grapeshot only when enemies are close — it is devastating at short range but useless at distance.
- Sailor: Before boarding a ship, check the chat or team comms to confirm who is steering and who is manning the guns. A ship with two people both trying to steer achieves nothing. Assign roles before you sail.
Browser and Technical Notes
Redcoats.io is built on WebGL2 and runs best on Chrome, Edge, or Brave. Other modern browsers should work but may experience performance differences at high player counts. No plugins, extensions, or downloads are required — open the page and you are in a lobby within seconds.
Mobile and tablet play is supported through the browser, though the full control scheme is significantly easier to manage on a desktop with a keyboard and mouse.

Frequently Asked Questions
Redcoats.io does something almost no other browser game attempts — it creates genuine large-scale military tactics in a setting that most games avoid entirely. The slow reload, the class interdependencies, the ship crew mechanics, the firing lines — all of it pushes players toward actual coordination rather than individual performance.
