4.6 (28,757)

Duo Survival is a 2-player cooperative puzzle platformer developed by 7Spot Games, a Lithuanian browser game studio, released in 2020. Two survivors navigate a zombie-infested post-apocalyptic world, solving puzzles and activating mechanisms to reach the exit of each level. The goal across the whole game is to find the cure for the virus. It runs free in any modern browser on PC and mobile, no download required. Two sequels exist — Duo Survival 2 and Duo Survival 3 — both by the same developer with the same controls and an expanded puzzle set.

Controls

Both characters share the same action set — just different keys. In solo play, one person uses both columns.

ActionCharacter 1Character 2
Move left / rightLeft / Right ArrowA / D
JumpUp ArrowW
Kick / Throw bottleDown ArrowS

The kick and throw-bottle action is the same key. Context determines which happens — near a zombie it kicks, near a throwable bottle it picks up and throws. Most players discover the throw mechanic late because they never press the down key near objects.

Characters

The two survivors are a male and female character. Their abilities are differentiated by what each handles better in puzzle design — one reaches high places and navigates tight passages more effectively, the other is better suited for moving heavy objects and clearing zombie groups. Neither character has a published name in official sources. Character assignments to keys are fixed: Character 1 (arrow keys) and Character 2 (WASD) do not change between levels.

How Levels Work

SoloLocal Co-op
Who controls whatOne player controls both characters, swapping between themTwo players share one keyboard
On deathLevel restarts from the beginningLevel restarts from the beginning
Win conditionBoth characters reach the exitBoth characters reach the exit

If either character dies or falls into a pit, the entire level restarts — there are no checkpoints within a level. Both survivors must reach the exit alive to advance. This makes later levels significantly punishing because a late-stage mistake costs everything earned in that attempt.

Puzzle Mechanics

Each level is built around a set of interactive elements that both characters must use together. Confirmed mechanics across the game:

MechanicHow it works
Pressure plates / buttonsOne character stands on a plate to open a door or activate a device while the other passes through
ElevatorsOperated by one character to transport the other to a higher or lower area
Locked doorsRequire a key or switch activated from a different position than the door itself
Throwable bottlesPicked up and thrown to distract zombies or trigger distant switches
Kicking zombiesClears a path for short-range movement; does not permanently remove zombies from the level
Boxes / cratesPushed or stacked to reach higher platforms

Puzzles are designed so that neither character can complete them alone — the intended solution always requires both characters to be active simultaneously or in close sequence. If a puzzle seems impossible alone, the answer almost always involves one character holding a position while the other acts.

Tips

▸ Scout the whole room before moving either character

Scroll through the level with both characters before committing either to a path. Most failed attempts come from moving one character into a zombie zone without knowing where the other needs to be. A 10-second scan saves multiple full restarts.

▸ The down key throws, not just kicks

Most players never use the bottle throw because they don’t test the down key near objects. Throwable bottles can distract zombies across the room, creating a clear path without either character needing to get close. Several puzzles are dramatically easier once this is known.

▸ Hold the plate, don’t leave it

Pressure plates deactivate the instant the character steps off. In co-op, agree before moving — the plate character stays until the other character is fully through the activated door or device, not just approaching it.

▸ In solo mode, solve one side fully before switching

When controlling both characters alone, trying to alternate every few steps creates confusion. Move one character to a stable safe position, then focus entirely on the other until their part is complete. Most solo puzzles have a “park and solve” structure.

▸ Kick zombies toward corners, not open space

Kicking a zombie into open space just repositions them — they return. Kicking toward a wall or corner gives more time before they re-enter the active path. This is especially useful near elevators where both characters need to be in position simultaneously.

The Duo Survival Series

GameWhat’s added
Duo SurvivalOriginal — core mechanics, buttons, doors, elevators
Duo Survival 2Hidden rooms, more complex contraptions, longer levels
Duo Survival 3New puzzle types, more levels, further environmental variety

All three games share identical controls and the same two characters. Duo Survival 2 and 3 are not harder in movement — they’re harder in puzzle complexity. If you finish the original and want more, the sequels scale in design challenge rather than platforming difficulty.

FAQ

Who made Duo Survival?
7Spot Games, a Lithuanian browser game developer. The same studio made Duo Survival 2, Duo Survival 3, Duo Vikings, and the ZOOM-BE series.
Can you play Duo Survival alone?
Yes. In solo mode, one person controls both characters by switching between them. It’s harder but completable — most puzzles have a “park one character safely, solve with the other” structure.
What happens when a character dies?
The entire level restarts from the beginning. There are no mid-level checkpoints. Both characters must reach the exit alive.
What are the controls?
Character 1: Arrow keys to move and jump, Down Arrow to kick or throw. Character 2: A/D to move, W to jump, S to kick or throw.
What is the goal of the game?
Guide both survivors through all levels to find the cure for the virus that caused the zombie outbreak. Each level requires both characters to reach the exit safely.
How is Duo Survival 2 different from the original?
Same characters and controls, but Duo Survival 2 adds hidden rooms, more complex contraptions, and longer levels. The platforming difficulty is similar; the puzzle complexity increases.
Does Duo Survival work on mobile?
Yes, with touch controls. Co-op on mobile is impractical on small screens — solo play works better on phones and tablets than shared-keyboard 2-player.
