The hole follows your cursor or movement direction continuously — there’s no separate action button. All movement input methods are equivalent; mouse drag tends to feel more natural on larger maps, keyboard on tight routes near small objects.

How Growth Works

You start small enough to swallow only lightweight objects — benches, trash cans, signs. Each object absorbed increases your hole’s diameter. As you grow, the range of swallowable objects expands: small items give way to cars, then larger structures, then buildings. Once your hole is large enough, it can swallow rival holes — eliminating a competitor rewards more coins than absorbing a building.

The growth threshold is strict: if an object is too large for your current size, it won’t be absorbed. You can’t force it. This means the early game is always spent on small items, and jumping to a larger section of the map before you’re large enough wastes time.

Power-Ups

Power-ups spawn on the map during matches. Three confirmed types appear across multiple verified sources:

  • Magnet — pulls nearby objects automatically toward your hole without needing to physically reach them.
  • Speed Boost — increases movement speed temporarily, useful for reaching objects or escaping larger holes.
  • Size Multiplier (Get Bigger) — accelerates growth beyond what normal absorption would achieve in the same timeframe.

Power-ups are on the map for everyone — there’s no guarantee you’ll reach one before a larger rival does. A speed boost early in a match is worth prioritizing because the movement advantage compounds through the entire remaining round.

Modes

ModeWhat it is
Classic2-minute match. Leaderboard position at the end determines your coin reward.
EndlessNo timer. Grow without a match cutoff. Competes on global leaderboards and gives larger coin rewards.

Coins and Unlocks

Coins are the only currency. They come from two sources: leaderboard position at the end of a Classic match (higher rank = more coins) and completing in-match objectives. Confirmed objectives include swallowing the town hall and consuming parks within the time limit — these pay a bonus on top of standard match rewards.

Coins unlock 15 worlds (different map environments) and hole skins. Worlds are not just visual — each offers a different layout and object distribution, which affects early-game routing.

Tips

▸ Prioritize dense small-object clusters at the start

Early growth determines everything. Areas with many small items packed together — parks, market areas, sidewalks — let you absorb faster than isolated large objects you can’t yet eat. The first 30 seconds of a 2-minute match decide whether you’re a threat or prey for the rest of it.

▸ Pick up speed boosts before size boosts early on

Early in a match you’re small and exposed. A speed boost lets you reach items faster and escape larger holes. A size boost on a small hole is less impactful than the same boost at mid-match size when you’re already absorbing larger objects and the multiplier compounds more.

▸ Check for objectives at the start of each match

Confirmed objectives — swallow the town hall, consume parks — pay bonus coins beyond leaderboard rewards. If those landmarks are visible on the map, plan a route toward them once you’re large enough. Missing an objective because you forgot to check it is a consistent coin loss across sessions.

▸ Stay away from larger holes, not just away from the center

New players retreat to the map edge when a big hole is nearby, but the edge often has fewer objects and limits escape routes. Moving to a different dense cluster away from the large hole keeps growth going and maintains more exit directions if pursued.

FAQ

How long does a match last in Hole Arena?
2 minutes in Classic mode. Endless mode has no timer.
How do you earn coins?
From your leaderboard position at match end and from completing in-match objectives like swallowing the town hall or parks before the timer runs out.
What do coins unlock?
15 worlds (different map environments) and hole skins. Both are purchased from the in-game shop.
Can you eat other players?
Yes — once your hole is large enough to match or exceed a rival’s size, you can swallow them. Being eaten by a larger hole doesn’t end the match; you continue at a smaller size.
What are the power-ups in Hole Arena?
Three confirmed power-ups: Magnet (auto-pulls nearby objects), Speed Boost (faster movement), and Size Multiplier (accelerated growth). They spawn on the map during matches.
Is there an endless mode?
Yes. Endless Mode removes the 2-minute timer, lets you grow without a cutoff, and competes on global leaderboards with larger coin rewards than Classic matches.
Does Hole Arena work on mobile?
Yes. The browser version supports touch drag controls on mobile — no separate app needed.
