What Is Airborne BMX?

Airborne BMX is a browser-based, line-based BMX trick game where you ride a fixed path through each level, pumping ramps to build speed and launching off jumps to link tricks into a single scoring run. Rather than free-roaming, every level is its own carefully designed “line” – your job is reading what’s coming and deciding exactly what trick combination to attempt on each jump.

Beneath that simple premise is a genuinely deep game: 60 levels spread across six distinct worlds, a roster of 15 real BMX freestyle riders each tied to their own bike-brand sponsor, a full custom bike builder with 17 editable parts, and a trick list of 85 named moves that scale from a basic spin all the way up to “insane” multi-rotation combos.

How to Play Airborne BMX

  1. Pump ramps to build speed. Timing your pumps well fills your boost meter and carries momentum into your next jump.
  2. Launch off a jump and pick your trick. Use WASD for your base trick set, or scroll the mouse wheel to switch to Tier 2 or Tier 3 tricks once unlocked, adding Spin or Oppo Spin to rotate.
  3. Chain tricks into a single line. Manuals and nose-manuals let you connect one trick straight into the next without breaking your combo.
  4. Grind rails for extra style and points. 50-50s, feebles, smiths, icepicks, toothpicks, and peggers are all available once unlocked.
  5. Land clean to bank your score. Every level is scored two ways – a full line score for the entire run, and a single-trick score for your best individual move.
  6. Reset instantly if you bail. A ragdoll crash animation plays out, and pressing X to Reset Rider gets you straight back into the action.
  7. Aim for medal tiers. Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum are awarded separately for both your line score and your single-trick score on every level.

Tricks are organized into three progressively unlocked tiers – WASD triggers your base Tier 1 tricks, while scrolling the mouse wheel switches to Tier 2 and Tier 3 tricks once they’re unlocked. Combine a trick input with Spin or Oppo Spin to add rotation to the move. Oppo Spins (rotating in the opposite direction) unlock later as a separate skill to layer on top of your base spins. There’s also a double-tap-to-stop-at-180 option that becomes available once unlocked, giving you finer control over rotation tricks.

Worlds and Levels

Airborne BMX’s 60 levels are spread across six themed worlds, ten levels each. The first four worlds open with a tutorial stage before their nine named levels; Worlds 5 and 6 open straight into named content.

Tricks

Airborne BMX includes 85 named tricks, grouped into families that scale in difficulty from a single rotation up through double, triple, quad, and “insane” variants:

  • Flips – Backflip and Frontflip, scaling up to Double, Triple, Quadruple, and Insane versions of each.
  • Spins – 180, 360, and their Oppo (opposite-direction) counterparts.
  • Barspins, Tailwhips, and Bikeflips – Each scaling from single through double, triple, quad, and insane tiers.
  • Whips, Varials, and Decades – Including superwhip, kickout, bike varial, body varial, and decade, each with escalating difficulty tiers.
  • Grabs and Style Moves – Table, one hand table, tire grab, toboggan, cannonball, nac-nac, can-can, no hander, turndown, xup, superman, cliffhanger, deadhanger, pendulum, darkside, and toothpick, among others.
  • Grinds – 50-50, feeble, smith, icepick, and suicide.
  • Balance Tricks – Manual and nose manual, used to link tricks together into a longer combo line.

Tricks are also split across the three unlockable trick tiers, so your available combo options genuinely expand the further you progress through the game rather than being available all at once.

Challenges

Every one of the 60 levels has 4 challenges attached to it, for 240 challenges in total. The first challenge on every level is always simply “Complete level,” while the remaining three are specific trick objectives that escalate in difficulty. Early levels ask for straightforward moves – a backflip, a 360, a tailwhip – while later levels demand elaborate combo lines, precise photo timing, or landing a very specific multi-trick sequence in a single run. Chasing down every challenge on every level is the game’s real long-form goal beyond just posting a high score.

Fun-Mode Toggles

Once unlocked, a set of optional toggles in the settings menu let you play around with the game’s rules for pure fun:

  • 180s – An alternate rotation option for spin tricks.
  • Slow-mo – Slows time down, also used for photo opportunities with in-level photographers.
  • Big Head Mode – A purely cosmetic visual toggle.
  • Glitch Mode – A visual effects toggle.
  • Megaboost, Megaspin, and Megaflip – Exaggerated versions of boost, spin, and flip mechanics.

It’s worth knowing that Megaboost, Megaspin, Megaflip, and Advanced Grinds (feebles and smiths) disable challenge and high-score saving while active – they’re built purely for messing around, not for competitive scoring runs.

Photo Mode and Replays

Certain in-level photographers offer photo opportunities – timing a trick in front of one and using the Slow-mo unlock captures a shot for your in-game photo gallery. Runs can also be recorded and saved or shared, giving you a way to show off a particularly good line after the fact.

Tips and Tricks

  • Master pumping before chasing big combos. Since your speed and boost come from how well you pump ramps, a strong foundation here makes every jump after it easier to control.
  • Learn Tier 1 tricks thoroughly before unlocking Tier 2 and 3. Since later tiers add on top of earlier ones rather than replacing them, a solid grasp of the basics pays off for the rest of the game.
  • Use manuals to connect tricks into a single line. Linking multiple tricks together rather than resetting between jumps is where the real scoring potential comes from.
  • Don’t ignore grinds once they unlock. Rail tricks like 50-50s and icepicks add variety to your line and are frequently required for specific challenges.
  • Check the challenge list before attempting a level seriously. Knowing exactly which tricks a level wants from you ahead of time is far more efficient than discovering them by trial and error mid-run.
  • Reset early rather than fighting a bad landing. Since Reset Rider gets you back into action instantly, there’s little reason to limp through a run that’s already gone wrong.
  • Save Megaboost, Megaspin, and Megaflip for casual sessions. Since they disable score saving, use them when you just want to mess around rather than during a serious challenge or medal attempt.
  • Work toward 100% completion for Mike Aitken. Since he’s the game’s hidden reward rider, treat him as a long-term goal to chase once you’ve got a solid handle on the core mechanics.
