911: Prey

4.9 out of 5 stars from 7 votes

911: Prey is a first-person survival-horror escape game built around stealth, observation, puzzles, and one very dangerous rule: do not let your captor realize what you have been doing.

You play as Jacob, a teenager who is picked up during a blizzard, given a drink by a stranger named Frank, and later wakes inside a basement cage. Getting out of that cage is only the beginning. The house is filled with locked doors, electrical panels, hidden clues, improvised tools, evidence, traps, and puzzle pieces that gradually open a route toward freedom.

Frank is not simply an obstacle standing in one room. He moves through the house, reacts to noise and suspicious changes, searches areas, and can punish Jacob when he notices evidence that something has been disturbed. Escaping therefore requires more than solving puzzles—you also need to remember what you touched and avoid leaving an obvious trail behind you.

Who Developed 911: Prey?

911: Prey is developed by Euphoria Games. The mobile version launched in July 2023, followed by the WebGL browser release in August 2023.

The game combines first-person exploration, hide-and-seek horror, environmental puzzles, inventory management, branching investigation, multiple endings, and an enemy who reacts to the evidence you leave behind. That emphasis on covering your tracks is what separates 911: Prey from a simple escape-room game.

How to Play 911: Prey

Explore the house from a first-person perspective and inspect anything that looks useful. Keys, tools, electrical parts, documents, puzzle components, and other objects can unlock new areas or solve problems that initially seem impossible.

Use the six inventory slots to carry important items and select the correct tool before interacting with an obstacle. A screwdriver may help with one panel, while gloves, a fuse, a battery, a lock pick, a hacksaw, or another specialized item may be needed elsewhere.

At the same time, listen for Frank. Making noise or leaving a room in an obviously altered state can draw his attention. When danger rises, stop focusing on the puzzle and concentrate on staying out of sight until it is safe to continue.

Jacob’s Escape Starts in the Basement

The story gives the escape more context than a typical key-hunting horror game. Jacob did not simply wake up in a random abandoned house. Frank brought him there after finding him on a highway during a blizzard, and clues discovered throughout the house gradually reveal more about both the captor and the people connected to the case.

Frank is identified in the game’s evidence as Frank Flowers. Documents also reference St. Maria Hospital, Martha, and other people tied to the investigation. Reading evidence is therefore useful for more than atmosphere: information can influence the decisions you make later.

Frank Can Search, Chase, and Notice Evidence

Frank’s behavior is built around Idle, Search, and Chase states. When nothing is wrong, you have opportunities to investigate. If suspicious activity or noise attracts attention, he can move toward the source and start searching. Once he catches sight of Jacob, the situation can become a direct chase.

The house contains specific noise and safe-area systems, so careless actions matter. Frank also has room-specific reactions connected to the dining room, laundry room, kitchen, basement, bathroom, and several doors.

This is why the game’s official description repeatedly warns you to cover your tracks. Opening something is only half the problem. If Frank later discovers a door, panel, cupboard, or object in a state that makes no sense, your investigation may become much more dangerous.

Explore the House Room by Room

The playable house includes a basement, dining room, living room, storage room, laundry area, boiler room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom-related areas, and multiple connecting doors and restricted spaces.

Progress is not completely linear. An object found in one room may solve a problem somewhere else, so learning the layout saves a lot of time. Remember which locked cabinets, panels, electrical devices, and unusual mechanisms you have already discovered even if you cannot use them yet.

The basement and boiler-room areas are especially important because several clue and puzzle systems point back toward them as the escape develops.

A Six-Slot Inventory Makes Item Choice Important

Jacob has six inventory selections, and the house contains a wide range of practical tools and puzzle objects. Recoverable items include keys, a special key, lock pick, crowbar, rubber gloves, screwdrivers, scissors, chisel, metal hacksaw, fuse, battery, resistor, cloth, grease, glass-cutter components, and other specialized objects.

Not every tool works on every obstacle. The interaction system can require a particular item, reject the wrong one, consume or modify items, activate mechanisms, reveal letters, trigger animations, create noise, or change the environment.

This makes experimentation useful, but random interaction can also be risky when Frank is nearby.

Puzzles Use the Environment Instead of Isolated Minigames

Many of the puzzles are integrated directly into the house. Electrical equipment, safes, panels, locks, clocks, doors, and damaged tools all connect to larger escape chains.

One puzzle system involves a safe-like electrical device with components such as a battery and resistors. Another uses a functional clock system connected to story timing and dinner events. Other clues refer to an electrical-panel key and a boiler-room password whose important numbers must be noticed in the environment.

Interaction messages also point toward problems involving an electrified handle, a rusty valve, missing fuse, coal dust, wet and dry cloth, tangled rope, a special key, sulfuric acid, and panels held by screws.

The result is a puzzle structure based heavily on observation. If an item seems useless, it may simply belong to a problem you have not discovered yet.

Poisoning Frank Is Part of the Branching Story

Some decisions affect more than immediate access to a room. The game tracks whether Frank has been poisoned, including separate poisoned and non-poisoned story sequences connected to the soup.

The build also tracks other important choices such as finding Martha’s letter, turning off the black fuse, calling 911, finishing the escape, and whether Jacob ultimately survives.

You do not need to make every discovery in exactly the same way, and the ending system reflects what you accomplished during the escape.

Multiple Endings Depend on What You Do

911: Prey has multiple outcomes rather than a single automatic ending. Survival, investigation choices, interactions with Frank, and progress toward key objectives can all influence the result.

Possible outcome systems include successfully escaping, being recaptured by Frank, dying from injuries or blood loss, and other failed escape events. The game separately records whether Jacob survives and whether Frank was poisoned.

The official game description states that there are multiple endings and that only one represents the best outcome, giving careful players a reason to replay the story and investigate details they missed.

Difficulty Changes More Than Enemy Speed

The game includes Easy, Normal, Hard, and Ghost difficulty descriptions.

DifficultyMain DifferenceLives
EasySlower enemy with reduced perception5
NormalFaster enemy with stronger perception3
HardVery fast enemy with the strongest perception2
GhostEnemy does not see or attack the playerSpecial mode

The game also contains separate puzzle-difficulty labels for Normal, Hard, and Impossible, so enemy pressure and puzzle challenge are treated as different aspects of the experience.

Use Hints When You Are Truly Stuck

Press H to access the hint system. The browser build connects hints with rewarded advertising, so they are best used when you have searched thoroughly and still cannot identify the next step.

Several built-in hints are direct enough to point you toward a specific location, such as an electrical panel or a password clue in the boiler room. Using them too early can remove much of the satisfaction from solving the house yourself.

Evidence Adds a Detective Layer to the Horror

The menu contains sections for the case, evidence, settings, and other investigation material. Documents include information about Jacob, Martha-related letters, Frank’s hospital identification, poison-related notes, electrical information, newspaper-style material, and other records connected to the wider story.

This detective layer matters because 911: Prey is not only about reaching an exit. The official description specifically encourages you to learn more about the maniac, and some of that knowledge helps shape later choices.

Best 911: Prey Tips

  • Remember where every locked object is. A tool found much later may solve something you passed several rooms ago.
  • Listen before interacting. A simple puzzle action is dangerous if Frank is approaching.
  • Cover your tracks. Doors, panels, cupboards, and other disturbed objects can become evidence that Jacob has been moving around.
  • Use crouching deliberately. Staying low helps when you need to remain cautious around dangerous areas.
  • Keep inventory slots organized. Select the right tool before approaching an interactive object.
  • Read documents. Evidence is tied to the branching story, not just background decoration.
  • Watch for electrical hazards. Gloves, fuses, batteries, resistors, and related items have specific uses.
  • Do not assume the first escape opportunity is the full objective. Important choices and evidence can affect the final outcome.
  • Save hints for genuine dead ends. Observation is one of the main skills the game is designed to test.
